Irish shamrocks drape beautifully across the basket weave Belleek tea cup and saucer. The shamrocks and handle are hand painted. In this case, the cup is a slightly lighter green than those on the saucer. Because one is vertical and the other is horizontal, it barely shows, but we strive to tell you everything that we see.
The small pottery village of Belleek in Fermanagh County, Ireland had local clay deposits the produced exceptionally translucent goods. It became known as Parian, a soft, mother of pearl glow that became associated with Belleek China. The world took notice and since 1853, Belleek has been prized.
All the Belleek marks contain the Irish wolfhound, the Devenish Round Tower, the Irish harp and the touch of Irish shamrocks on each end. This lovely Parian ware is known for its translucency and quality. This set wears the fifth green mark for the years between 1955 to 1965.
Measurements: The saucer has a 5.75" diameter. The cup is 2.5" high and is 3.4" from rim to rim.
