This is a beautifully crafted 1987 Christmas plate with an interesting pattern. The light dances on the creamy porcelain. The swirls and fleabane complete the lighthearted, basketweave design.
What is the sunflower like plant that is featured? It is actually Irish Fleabane.
As you might think from this plant's name, it was once used by our ancestors to banish fleas. They lit fires and when this plant was placed on top of the fire, the smoke which was produced drove out all the fleas.
This is a perennial wildflower which grows throughout the country and flowers from July to September. The leaves are heart-shaped, wavy edged and they clasp the upright stems. This is a native plant of Ireland which belongs to the family Asteraceae.
It is 9" in diameter.
This is in excellent condition. It wears the brown mark from 1987. There are no chips, cracks or crazing. We do not sell damaged items. You may buy with confidence.

Beautiful plate. It is even prettier than the picture. I don't know where April finds all of her beautiful treasures, but she always has the perfect items to add to my collection. I have found my best pieces in her shop.
