The small pottery village of Belleek in Fermanagh County, Ireland had local clay deposits that produced exceptionally translucent goods. It became known as Parian ware and it had a soft, mother of pearl glow that became associated with Belleek China.
Belleek marks include the Irish Wolfhound with the head turned to face one of Ireland's round towers. There is also an Irish harp and two sprigs of shamrock which border the ends of the banner which contains the name Belleek.
This is a beautifully crafted plate in the Limpet Tea Ware pattern that was produced sometime during 1965 - 1980. We know this because this one wears the Belleek sixth green mark logo.
This charming plate would probably be used for serving elegant pastry, technically it is a bread and butter size. Some call it a fruit plate or side plate. It was even offered in the 1928 Belleek catalog offerings.
It is 6.5" in diameter. It rests upon a 3.25" round base and is 1" high. It has a pale yellow lustre trim on the edges, none in the center rim.
